Fifty-five teams from four countries and 23 schools participated in the ACM ICPC Asia Manila Regional held October 22-23. This is the first time a Philippines team has won an ACM ICPC Asia regional competition and the third time the Philippine Team advanced to the ACM ICPC World Finals. The contest fosters creativity, teamwork, and innovation in building new software programs, and enables students to test their ability to perform under pressure. It is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious programming contest in the world.

Google Code Jam was an international programming competition hosted and administered by Google. The competition began in 2003. The competition consists of a set of algorithmic problems which must be solved in a fixed amount of time.

The two-day weekend competition saw 60 teams of 1-3 programmers each create 48 apps in a gruelling 36 hours of marathon analysis, coding, and testing. 2013's theme focused on building apps for “development”.
